5 My city - Valencia by Lorena

Today's guest post about Valencia by Lorena from Do\Undo almost made me pack my suitcase and take the first plane back to Spain. 

The city:  Valencia ( Spain)


When i think about /my city/ I think about:  the sea, the sun, the light. I think the climate is one of the best things of the city.

I love: Valencia is a small town and everything is close, you can walk to most of the places and that is an advantage. 

Soundtrack(s) of the city? ( albums / songs that everytime you listen to makes you remember the city for whatever reason: Every time I hear a song by Josh Rouse, I remember my city. Maybe it's because he has been living here, and because just like him, I love the city of Altea. (in fact, he dedicated a song to Altea: Quiet Town) 

Favorite spots in town (culture, eating, shops, parks, library, going out, etc...anything that comes to your mind): The IVAM and MUVIM museums, Parque de cabecera, the Mercado Central ( Central Market), l'Albufera (where you can rent a small boat and take a walk).

Best ice cream in town:  mmmm... Glassol. I love the chocolate covered cone. 

If i had a day to spend in town this is what i would do: Breakfast at the sun at a terrace, a walk by "El Carmen" (the old quarter of the city), shopping at Central Market, hear the "Mascletá" (at this moment we are in "Fallas", Valencia typical party where firecrackers are the stars) , and of course eat an authentic paella on El Saler beach.

Why never leave: my family and almost all of my friends are here and because I like the habits of Mediterranean life.

Reasons why pack and move: sometimes I think it's a town too small ... It needs to grow more and I see more opportunities for leisure, culture, work ... in other cities.


For which city (could be all around the world) would you trade it for? and why? (not forever, lets say for 1 year maybe): New York of course! I was there last October and  I loved it! I also would like to live for a while in Paris ...
